The Carnegie STEM resource and Excellence Pathway activity are a great way for educators (and/or educational teams) to assess STEM in their building/district. This is a great resource to assess and even allows for the setting of priority areas of improvement and the tracking of progress
- STEM-Works http://stem-works.com/subjects
STEM-Works provides educators with articles, activities, events, job and advocacy information related to several areas of STEM such as robotics, space, sea exploration, weather, and crime scene investigation to name a few. This website is a very cool place for teachers to explore and gain ideas of STEM in various fields that one wouldn’t connect to STEM such as anthropology. The best part is the activities are free.
STEMfinity offers access to a plethora of FREE STEM resources by offering links to several sites in one place. This site is like a STEM teachers dream being that so many resources are in one place. Filters are offered to make searching the extensive list easier.
- Mosa Mack Science https://mosamack.com/
Mosa Mack Science is for middle school educators as the content is geared for students in grades 4-8. A scope and sequence is provided for each grade level. Units are offered for 36 topics & you can get one free unit of choice when you register. There is a cost associated with this service beyond the free unit.
- Discovery Education https://www.discoveryeducation.com/
Discovery Education is a site that offers so much for educators, I was excited to see they had added STEM content! STEM Connect provides real-world challenges to the classroom. Their content covers K-8, so this is for those teaching STEM at the elementary or middle school levels.
- Smithsonian Science Education Center https://ssec.si.edu/
The Smithsonian Science Education Center offers a STEM Vision Blog which is informative and a great way to keep up with current STEM information and see STEM being applied to solve real-world problems. They also offer professional development opportunities.
- PBS Teachers STEM Education Resource Center https://thinktv.pbslearningmedia.org/
The PBS Teachers STEM Education Resource Center offers FREE resources including videos, interactive, and more. Searches can be done by topic of interest such as engineering technology, science, math, the arts, social studies, English language arts, health or by grade band. These resources could be a great starting place for incorporating STEM into various content areas.
- Science Buddies https://www.sciencebuddies.org/teacher-resources
Science Buddies has oodles of resources for teachers including lesson plans, STEM classroom kits, and guides to using the scientific method and engineering design process. There is a section to ask an expert, so if you are unsure help is only a click away!
- Gizmos ( https://www.explorelearning.com/ )
This is a site that houses a library of 400+ Gizmos or interactive science and math simulations for grades 3 -12. The simulations are inquiry-based and aligned to the standards. They offer a Gizmo of the week. These are fun activities that engage students in their learning. I was unable to gain pricing information, there is a place to request it.
- NASA Electronic Professional Development Network Courses http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewsr.html?pid=35758
NASA offers professional development for educators to help prepare them to engage their students in STEM. The courses are free and conducted online.
